Cuddling our pets in the night sounds warm and cozy, until someone catches a sty.

It’s no doubt we love our pets but we need to also be observant of the possible issues that could arise if we don’t protect our eyelash extensions from being exposed to animals and their germs. Animal fur is prone to carry dust mites, outside pollen and dead skin cells; All of which can carry bacteria and germs. Cuddling with your pets and living in-doors amongst them can have benefits to our immune system like reducing pet known allergies and helps build immunities to specific things like dander and dust. However, don’t be fooled, laying on shared fabrics with pets or having your pets sleep near your face and pillow can “open a can” of consequences.

Fluffy surfaces like cotton pillows and bed coverings catch dust by drawing it out of the air and can act like a magnet. Bed Linens should be washed weekly (or immediately if you feel any dander or contaminations have come in contact with our face area especially if we have eyelash extensions.). Pillows should be spritzed with Febreze and popped into a hot dryer for 20 mins to kill dust mites and bacteria.

Ahh-Chooo!, I hate how much I love you, pet.

As we know, Dogs require frequent walks outdoors which expose them to outside contaminates. When the dog jumps on furniture, those germs from outside sidewalks, streets and grass all can contaminate your fabrics including your bed linens. Cats frequent the litter box exposing their paws to feces, urine and litter dust. Those are two main culprits for causing the dreaded pink eye and stys. Our eyes are sensitive and we need to remember anything that could potentially settle into the lash line could be a danger.

“You might be quick to blame an eyelash tech for causing eye related issues, but without the thorough understanding of the importance of maintaining eyelash health around pets, you could potentially keep causing reinfection to yourself continuously and not know why.” Rachel R. Price can be a large factor when making choices as a consumer. When selecting eyelashes, can corners be cut to save a little cash?

Us as a consumer in America, we have often been trained to spot a deal. That might often be true about saving money on gas or maybe even groceries, But when it comes to beauty services, should we try to find a bargain?

Psychologists have been hired to consult with marketing agencies, helping them to understand the consumer and their buying habits. Over the years, market trends fluctuate so they know how to keep attention of the buyer. If the retailer usually keeps their prices high throughout the year, they can, in turn, give the consumer the opportunity to take advantage of discounts during peak seasons. This isn’t only for benefit of the buyer but the retailer also knows that they will need to unload all of their inventory before the new year. Beauty services should never be grouped together in the same level of discount hunting mentality.

People tend to associate higher prices with higher quality. We can only hope we get what we pay for. This understanding should be the same when comparing pricing for eyelashes or another intricate and detailed beauty services. Cutting costs on full sets may mean the tech has not had a lot of experience in lashing or is not properly qualified. Early in a beauty professionals career while trying to build their book and perfect their craft, you might notice the prices are lower. That could sound great to some people as long as they save money, However, without a proper consultation and assurance of quality product, you are at risk to having a bad experience due to the budgetary restrictions.

A bargain is a bargain, right?

Not every beauty tech is the same. Nail shops often offer low cost eyelash extensions but what they fail to explain is that cluster eyelashes are not the same as individual eyelash extensions. Unprofessional lash techs and their lack of understanding can cause excessive damage to your eyes and lashes due to inexperience and low quality products. Lets look into why prices for eyelashes can be on the higher end and why lash companies charge so much. The majority of experienced beauty professionals in the US are self employed. With that in mind there are a lot of reasons why a beauty professional charges what they do. Self employment taxes, state income tax,  filing fees for yearly taxes with tax consultants, local city fees, marketing fees, high quality product costs, yearly insurance costs, yearly state licensing fees, disposable goods, booth rental/spa ownership fees, tuition fees, yearly continued education cost, etc.. The list goes on.

Quality is a large part of the pricing scale and geographical location also plays a large role.  Where ever you live in the world, The best advice is to locate and research your local beauty techs and read as many reviews as possible. Always do an informed consultation before you finally decide to lay down for lashes. Remember to ask as many questions as possible so you will have a thorough understanding of how much the tech is educated on their products and their craft.

Mink VS Synthetic. Your overall goals will determine which lash you choose.

There are a lot of eyelash options on the market. But what is the difference and which lashes are best for what?

Depending on your specific preferences and needs, your eyelashes can be a big reflection of who you are.

  • Are you a natural beauty who believes less is more or are you a sophisticated diva that enjoys glam 24/7?

Whatever your style, there is a custom set of eyelashes that is waiting just for you. Pondering over your options will help not only your own understanding of what would be flattering, it will also help emphasize to the artist your expectations.

With a properly instructed lash artist, they are likely able to gain insight into what you want by the initial consultation. Pictures and examples that you as the customer may find are often appreciated in order to replicate a specific style and gain insight about your expectations. However, keep in mind it depends on the quality of your natural eyelashes. That’s where eyelash options come in.

Silk, Fur and Synthetic are just a few options of available eyelashes on the market. If you prefer a natural effect, mink are as natural as they come. (Besides the controversial human hair eyelash extensions now floating the web.) Mink fur extensions when purchased from USA or EU locations tend to be humanly manuafactured by brushing minks from an open range mink farm. Farmers comb the minks daily releasing residual hairs. After cleansing, cutting and arranging on sticky tape they are able to sell to markets. The mink does set a specific standard of class but it isnt for everyone. Allergies to small rodents like rabbits will prevent your mink lashes from being a good fit; Thats where silk or synthetic comes in.

Synthetic will almost always replicate the look of mascara when using a .15mm width eyelash. The natural glossy looking shine creates an appearance of makeup without the hassle. Again, its not soley based on your preference as anyone can be allergic to anything. Synthetics eyelashes of good quality tend to be made of nylon with a silk core. They should remain flexible yet maintain their shape throughout the lash cycle. Unlike silk lashes, synthetic eyelashes tend to be on the firmer side, which too some it can be too heavy. Silk would be a great alternative to synthetic and mink.

With so many options available it may feel overwhelming but there are differences that are highly beneficial to your lash needs.

One final thought to add is to find an experienced eyelash tech when wanting custom designs. If you see your lash tech only offers one specific eyelash style and does not offer any other options that fit your specific needs, it may be time to research another alternative.

People can be pushy. Here are a few ways to identify a problem customer and politely say “No.”

Litigation has been a booming business throughout the centuries and the last thing anyone would need is a reason to be nervous of the consequence of making a bad business decision. If a client has health concerns that can potentially put them at risk, would it be wise to continue the service? No.

Being polite, sounding well educated in the matter and firm with your answer will help you to show your professionalism and protect you from potential litigation. Standing firm with your answer will seem tough at times as clients can be persistent. Obvious issues such as visible cuts, blisters, skin irritations, infections should all be avoided as it can cause further issues including expensive medical bills.
